Holiday Cottage in the Scottish Highlands
luxury, privacy & remoteness of Coorie Cottage near Ullapool
We yearned for wild beauty and quiet solitude and found it here!
Nigel & Lou Middleton
We first came upon Altnaharrie by chance in 2002. After many years living in Cornwall and witnessing all the changes down there we wanted to escape to the Highlands. Having spent many holidays taking in the majestic beauty and still unspoilt landscape of the North West Scotland, it was perhaps the only place that we felt truly at peace. The Highlands are now one of the few places left that can truy claim to be wilderness.
By the time we found Altnaharrie the Inn had closed and we had no desire to reopen it. In the grounds of the Inn was a quaint cottage, the original stone built part of which came with two foot thick walls and had been built in the mid 1700’s. We completely renovated the building including the 1980s timber cabin extension and have retained the character of an ancient stone built house with added contemporary touches combining to create a cosy cottage.
We Did It Ourselves
We did most of the conversion work ourselves over a number of years employing professional tradesmen when absolutely necessary. We added a kitchen in one of the old bathrooms, converted a bedroom into a lounge-diner with windows providing wonderful views. We put down solid oak floors, installed a word burning stove and central heating and added double glazing to bring the building up to date without compromising character and original features. With a four poster bed and a sunken hot tub on the decking you still have the characteristics of a traditional Highland lodge, but not so drafty!
Our Journey with Coorie Cottage
We have been letting out Coorie Cottage since 2015. The overriding sentiment from guests is ‘don’t change a thing’ and we welcome back returning visitors year after year.
Our intention has always been to create an idyllic sanctuary where you can come and experience true peace and tranquility. A kind of ‘recharge’ for the soul where the surrounding landscape has as much an influence as the cottage itself.
What Our Guests Say
Seaton & Hannah
” At last! We have finally found a cottage that delivers on it’s promises of peace and tranquillity. No noisy children, barking dogs or traffic. This place really is the perfect get away from the hub bub of urban/rural life. The setting is ideal and Nigel and Lou are perfect hosts; invisible but on hand should you need them. Thank you! “
Lisa & Lee
” Absolutely loved our stay here in paradise. The dogs have had a brilliant time, no stress what so ever. Nigel and Lou are the perfect hosts. We enjoyed our little trip across the loch and of course the fabulous prawns and lobster. Max was the perfect gentleman allowing our boys to ‘borrow his toys’. Wouldn’t change a thing, thank you very much and hope to see you next year. “
