To Do At Coorie Cottage

Self Catering in the Highlands

At Coorie Cottage

The first and most important thing ‘to do’ at Coorie Cottage is abandon the ‘thousand mile an hour’ way of life, submit to the inevitable and totally relax. A peaceful, romantic stay at Coorie is a wonderful opportunity to completely switch off and rediscover what is truly important. Sometimes doing nothing is the best thing of all. Whether you are visiting for a honeymoon, anniversary or a romantic getaway it makes no difference. Coorie creates the perfect atmosphere of quiet seclusion and privacy for that intimate time together.

Just doing nothing can be extremely liberating. Imagine getting up on your first morning and all you can hear is silence. No urgent calling to get up and do all the things you would normally do. After twenty-four hours here you will experience a reinvigorating transformation in your state of mind and wellbeing. No distractions, no stress and maybe you will have the time and space to find the magic. Perhaps a real change in the way you think about your life and the world around you.

a sanctuary from Twenty First Century life

Although the cottage has mobile signal and broadband we encourage our guests to try a digital detox while they are here. A chance to become less dependent on the incessant interventions of social media, emails and 24 hour news cycle.

However, we do appreciate that not everyone can do this for various reasons but in order to really experience all that Coorie offers, it is vital that you come here with the intention to totally relax and escape.

Within the grounds

We have a vast array of marine animals, birds, fish, plants and trees all of which come together to provide a very special ecosystem with its own weather. You might discover that bird watching is not that boring and is in fact an extremely relaxing and enlightening way to spend a few hours. Looking out for the otters is equally satisfying and even if you do not spot one in the cove or on the beach, just engaging in the process will open your eyes to a myriad of natural events which otherwise you may have missed.

At Coorie within the grounds, of which approximately three acres are dog proof, you and your dogs can roam free. Remember your dogs are on holiday as well. We have no rules and restrictions. You can all swim in the loch and if going further afield is your wish both you and your dogs can roam wherever you like over the surrounding coast and hills. We only ask that if your dogs are unreliable with other animals you keep them under control as there may be sheep, cattle and red deer on the hills.

If the urge to do something active is great we can provide a number of options to stimulate your interests. We have plenty of fishing equipment for our guests with the option of saltwater fishing in the loch or freshwater in the lochen at the top of the hill.

We have a two person kayak which our guests can freely use to explore the loch or even go across to Ullapool. We also have a RIB (boat) in which we can take you across the loch to Ullapool, perhaps for some lunch and a wander around the historic fishing village (more details below under Boat Trips and Country Pursuits and Sports).

In the cottage itself we have all the amenities and facilities you would expect of luxury self- catering accommodation. TV reception by satellite dish is very good as is the 4G WiFi. To accompany this we have CD, DVD and radio for you entertainment. A good selection of CD’s and DVD’s are available but you are welcome to bring your own box-set if a binge is what you fancy. A good selection of books is on hand and we have chosen titles that have local interest as well as wider novels and reference books. Some of our guests leave books and DVD’s which all go toward creating an eclectic mix of interest for all commers. Curling up in the reclining chair beside a wood burning stove with a good book is the definition of ‘coorie’. When you experience it…you will understand. A good bottle of wine also helps.
